Jacana AI Assistant Apps Privacy Notice
Last Updated: October 3, 2026
This supplemental privacy notice describes how Jacana, Inc. ("Jacana," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use Jacana from inside an AI assistant. It covers each of these, which we call the "App":
- The Jacana app for ChatGPT, used in ChatGPT, a service of OpenAI.
- The Jacana connector for Claude, used in Claude, a service of Anthropic.
Where something below applies to only one of these, it says which. Everything else applies to both.
This notice supplements our general Privacy Notice, which governs all Jacana services. If there is a conflict between this supplement and the general Privacy Notice, the general Privacy Notice controls. You should read both notices to fully understand how your information is handled.
1. About the App
The App lets you ask Jacana about suspicious content from inside ChatGPT or Claude. It offers two tools:
- Analyze a message: you provide Input (as defined in our general Privacy Notice) in the form of text, such as a suspicious message, email, text or social media post, or a description of a suspicious interaction. The App returns Output in the form of a structured scam analysis.
- Check an identifier: you provide a website, phone number, email address or other identifier, and the App looks it up in Jacana's own database of reported scams and returns what we know about it.
Together, your Input and the Output constitute User Content as described in our general Privacy Notice.
2. Personal Information We Collect
When you use the App, we may collect the following personal information:
- User Content (Input): the text you submit for analysis and any identifier you ask us to check. If you include personal information in the Input you provide to the App, this information may be reproduced in the Output.
- Extracted identifiers: the App automatically extracts structured data from your Input, such as phone numbers, email addresses, website addresses, dollar amounts, payment methods and platform names that belong to the suspected scammer. This extraction is performed to help you complete an incident report if you choose to continue to our website. Only information that is explicitly present in your submitted content is extracted.
Information We Do NOT Collect Through the App
- Your name, email address, or any account identifiers.
- Your OpenAI or ChatGPT account information, or your Anthropic or Claude account information.
- Your conversation history within ChatGPT or Claude.
- Your precise geographic location.
The App is anonymous by design. We do not create user accounts, require logins, or link analysis records to any individual identity through the App.
3. What the App Returns
When you submit content for analysis, the App returns a structured scam assessment. This Output includes:
- A risk level (scam, suspicious, or likely safe)
- A headline summarizing the assessment
- A detailed summary of the analysis
- A scam type classification (e.g., phishing, investment fraud, romance scam)
- Specific red flags identified in your content
- Recommended actions you can take
- A link to Jacana Scam Check on our website (hellojacana.com/scam-check) containing a unique reference identifier
Your analysis results, original Input, and extracted identifiers are stored on our servers and associated with the unique reference identifier. They are only retrieved when you choose to open the link. No additional services are triggered unless you take this action.
When you open the link, Scam Check displays your full assessment and your message and the assessment become part of a Scam Check conversation, where you can continue, pre-populate an incident report, and get a personalized recovery plan. From that point, the data practices described in our general Privacy Notice apply to that conversation, including automatic collection of device information, IP address, cookies, and usage data, and, if you sign in, association with your Jacana account. You may also optionally provide additional information (such as contact details, financial transaction records, or screenshots) to build an incident report.
4. How We Use Your Personal Information
We use the personal information collected through the App as described in our general Privacy Notice. For the App, this includes:
- Providing the Services: your Input is sent to a large language model to generate the analysis Output returned to you. The App makes two separate processing calls. One analyzes your content for scam indicators. The other extracts structured identifiers (such as phone numbers and email addresses) that can pre-populate an incident report if you choose to continue on our website. When you ask the App to check an identifier, we look it up in our own database.
- Improving the Services and developing new products: submitted content and analysis results are stored and may be used to develop, train, and fine-tune our scam detection models, algorithms, and artificial intelligence technologies.
- Operating our business: we analyze aggregate, de-identified data to carry out analytics and identify emerging scam patterns and trends.
5. How We Share Your Personal Information
As described in our general Privacy Notice, we may share personal information with service providers that help us provide the Services. For the App, this includes:
- OpenAI (the Jacana app for ChatGPT): the App operates on OpenAI's ChatGPT platform. When you use the App, your conversation (including any text you submit) is processed by OpenAI before it reaches Jacana's servers, and Jacana's response is delivered back to you through OpenAI. OpenAI processes this data under its own privacy policy and terms. OpenAI may use ChatGPT conversations to improve its models unless you opt out through your ChatGPT settings. We encourage you to review OpenAI's Privacy Policy to understand how they handle your data.
- Anthropic (the Jacana connector for Claude): the connector operates on Anthropic's Claude platform. When you use it, your conversation (including any text you submit) is processed by Anthropic before it reaches Jacana's servers, and Jacana's response is delivered back to you through Anthropic. Anthropic processes this data under its own privacy policy and terms. We encourage you to review Anthropic's Privacy Policy to understand how they handle your data.
- Google Cloud AI services: your Input is sent to Google's large language model for analysis. We have Zero Data Retention enabled, meaning Google does not retain your data after processing.
- Google Cloud infrastructure: analysis records are stored in a secure database on Google Cloud. These records include your submitted text, the resulting analysis Output, and extracted identifiers. Records are stored for the purposes described in Section 4 above and are not shared with third parties beyond what is described in this notice and our general Privacy Notice.
We do not sell or rent your personal information.
6. Retention of Personal Information
Consistent with our general Privacy Notice, we retain analysis records indefinitely for the purposes described in Section 4 above, including improving our scam detection models and identifying emerging scam trends. Because the App is anonymous by design, these records are not linked to any individual identity unless you open the Scam Check link and sign in, as described in Section 3. If you contact us and can identify the content you submitted, we will make reasonable efforts to locate and delete the associated records upon request.
7. Your Privacy Choices and Rights
As described in our general Privacy Notice, in accordance with applicable law, you may have the right to:
- Request access to or portability of your personal information
- Request correction of your personal information
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Request restriction of or object to our processing of your personal information
- Withdraw your consent to our processing of your personal information
Because the App is anonymous by design, we generally cannot identify which records belong to a specific user, which may limit our ability to fulfill certain requests. If you can provide the message content you submitted, we will make reasonable efforts to locate and act on the relevant records.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at support@hellojacana.com. You can also stop using the App at any time. No data is collected when the App is not in use.
8. Children's Personal Information
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or other age as required by local law outside the United States), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us as described below.
9. Changes to This Notice
We may update this notice from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated notice on this page and update the "Last Updated" date above.
