Jobs, housing & money admin scams
Hiring, renting, taxes and giving — the brands attached to a decision you were already making.
DoorDash
DoorDash scams centre on the verification code. Someone calls claiming to be DoorDash support about an order or account problem and asks for a code — that code takes over the account. DoorDash never asks for it, and there is no inbound support number.
Learn more →Publishers Clearing House
Publishers Clearing House scams involve fake calls, emails, or letters saying you won a PCH prize and must pay taxes, fees, or shipping costs to claim it. The real PCH will never ask you to pay anything to receive a prize, never calls to tell you that you won, and always awards prizes in person with their famous Prize Patrol.
Learn more →Intuit TurboTax
TurboTax scams are emails about a refund on hold or an account problem that lead to a fake login. A TurboTax account contains your full return — Social Security number, employer, dependants, bank details — which makes it one of the most valuable accounts you own.
Learn more →Zillow
Zillow rental scams copy real listings and ask for a deposit before you can see the property. Never send money for a place you have not stood inside. For buyers, the bigger risk is closing wire fraud — always verify wire instructions by phone on a number you already had.
Learn more →H&R Block
H&R Block scams are refund-status emails that capture your login, and "ghost preparers" who file your return without signing it and direct the refund to their own account. Check that your refund goes to your account number on the filed return.
Learn more →GoFundMe
GoFundMe scams are fabricated campaigns and copies of real ones that redirect donations. GoFundMe's Giving Guarantee refunds donations to fraudulent campaigns made on GoFundMe itself — but not money sent by payment app to a person who linked you a campaign.
Learn more →American Red Cross
Red Cross scams appear within hours of a disaster: fake donation pages, lookalike charity names, and callers or collectors claiming to represent the organisation. Give only at redcross.org, and check any charity at charitynavigator.org before donating.
Learn more →Indeed
Job scams on Indeed follow a pattern: a remote role, an interview by text or chat, a fast offer, and then either a cheque to deposit and forward, or a request for your Social Security number and bank details before any real onboarding.
Learn more →ZipRecruiter
ZipRecruiter job scams impersonate real companies, interview you by text, and end in either a cheque to deposit and forward or a request for your Social Security number and bank details before any verified offer.
Learn more →Instacart
Instacart scams target shoppers: a call claiming to be support about a batch or payout problem, ending in a request for a verification code that takes over the account and redirects earnings. Instacart has no inbound support phone line.
