Report to X

Last updated September 18, 2026

The short answer

Report X scams and impersonation, including without an account

X, the platform formerly called Twitter, has a detail worth knowing. You do not need an X account to report someone impersonating you. The scam running hardest on the platform is a message saying your account has been flagged for fraudulent activity and must be appealed somewhere else.

What they handle

  • Accounts impersonating you or a brand
  • Financial scams and phishing links in posts and DMs
  • Crypto giveaway and investment pitches
  • Deceptive links that redirect somewhere unexpected

How to file a report

  1. 1

    Report the post or DM

Go to the post and select Report post, then follow the steps so X can gather the relevant detail. The same flow covers Lists and direct messages.

  2. 2

    Use the impersonation form

If an account is posing as you or a brand you represent, file through the Help Center form. You can also flag impersonation of someone else from that account's profile.

  3. 3

Report it even without an account

X states you do not need an X account to report impersonation on X, which matters if you deleted yours or never had one.

  4. 4

Ignore any "contact support elsewhere" message

X will never ask you to reach support through Discord or anywhere off the platform. A message saying your account is under investigation for fraudulent activity is itself the scam.

What you'll need

  • The URL of the post or the profile
  • Screenshots of the direct messages
  • Any wallet address or link you were sent

What to expect

X acts on the account or the post. It cannot recover money, and crypto sent to a giveaway address is unrecoverable by anyone.

Frequently asked questions

I got a DM saying my account was reported and will be suspended. Is it real?

No. X does not warn you by DM and does not run appeals through Discord or any outside chat. The link goes to a fake login page built to take the account.
