Report to Walmart

Last updated September 18, 2026

The short answer

Report fake Walmart emails, gift-card texts and unrecognized orders

Walmart runs a page specifically for reporting fraudulent email. Two of its own rules are worth knowing first. It does not notify contest winners by text, and it does not send product recall notices by text either.

What they handle

  • Emails and texts using the Walmart name and logo
  • Gift card and prize texts claiming you have won
  • Fake product recall messages
  • Unrecognized charges or orders on your Walmart account

How to file a report

  1. 1

Use the report fraud email page

Walmart hosts a dedicated page at walmart.com/c/kp/report-fraud-email for suspected fraudulent email using its brand.

  2. 2

Check the order in your account, not from the message

For an order or charge you do not recognise, open your Walmart account directly. Walmart has a help article on account security and unrecognized orders.

  3. 3

Treat any prize text as fake

Walmart states it does not notify contest winners by text message. A text saying you have won a Walmart gift card is a scam every time.

  4. 4

Report it to the FTC or your state Attorney General

If you were defrauded, Walmart points you to the Federal Trade Commission or the Consumer Fraud Division of your state Attorney General.

What you'll need

  • The message and the address or number it came from
  • Any order number quoted in it
  • The amount and card used, if you paid

What to expect

Walmart can act on the sender and the fake site. It cannot recover a payment you made to a third party, which is your bank or card issuer.

Frequently asked questions

I got a text about a Walmart product recall. Is that real?

No. Walmart says it does not send recall notices by text. Real recalls are posted on official sites and sent by direct email.
