Report to Verizon
Last updated September 18, 2026
The short answer
Report Verizon phishing, scam texts, and accounts opened in your name
Verizon splits account fraud into two cases, and they go to different places. An account opened in your name is a claim you file online. Changes to an account you already have is a phone call. Getting this right first saves a transfer.
What they handle
- Emails and texts pretending to be Verizon
- Verizon accounts opened in your name by someone else
- Unauthorized changes to your existing account
- SIM swap and number port-out fraud
How to file a report
- 1
Forward the message
Send a phishing email claiming to be Verizon to phishing@verizon.com. Forward a scam text to 7726, which spells SPAM on a keypad, then delete it.
- 2
File a claim if an account was opened in your name
Use the fraud claim form on verizon.com. You answer questions about the account, upload supporting documents, and Verizon says it notifies you of the status within two business days.
- 3
Call if your own account was changed
Account takeover, meaning unauthorized changes to an account you already hold, goes to 888-483-7200. Verizon verifies your access before it investigates.
- 4
Call the SIM swap line if your phone lost service
A sudden loss of service can mean your number was moved to another device. Call *611 from a Verizon mobile, or 1-800-922-0204. For a port-out specifically, Verizon lists 888-844-7095.
What you'll need
- The account number, or the address the fraudulent account was opened at
- Documents proving your identity, for an identity theft claim
- The original text or email, forwarded rather than screenshotted
What to expect
An identity theft claim gets a status update within two business days. Account takeover is handled on the call. Neither recovers money you sent to a scammer, which is a matter for your bank.
Frequently asked questions
My phone suddenly has no service. Is that a scam?
It can be. Losing service for no reason is the usual first sign of a SIM swap. Someone has moved your number to their device to catch your login codes. Call Verizon from another phone straight away.
