Report to Venmo

Last updated September 18, 2026

The short answer

Report Venmo scams through in-app chat, and forward phishing to Venmo

Venmo handles account problems through in-app chat rather than a general phone line, so the fastest route is inside the app. Phishing goes to a separate automated address. Treat that one as a postbox, not as support.

What they handle

  • Unauthorized payments, transfers or account changes
  • Texts, emails and calls impersonating Venmo
  • Payments sent to a scammer
  • Venmo Debit Card fraud

How to file a report

  1. 1

Open a chat with support in the app

Go to Me, then Settings, then Get Help, then Chat With Us, and ask for an agent. Venmo asks you to report unauthorized activity as soon as possible, and this is the route it names.

  2. 2

    Forward phishing to phishing@venmo.com

Send screenshots as an attachment, with details of what the caller or sender asked for. Venmo says this inbox is automated, so do not include personal information and do not expect a reply.

  3. 3

Call the card line for debit card fraud

Venmo Debit Card problems have their own number, 855-204-4090, staffed 24 hours a day all year.

  4. 4

Check how the message addressed you

Venmo uses your first and last name or your business name, never "Dear user" or "Hello Venmo member". Its multi-factor messages contain no link, so a link in one is the tell.

What you'll need

  • The username or phone number you paid
  • The date and amount of the payment
  • Screenshots of the message, if you are reporting phishing

What to expect

Unauthorized activity is investigated once support has it. A payment you authorised is harder, since Venmo transfers settle quickly and carry no buyer protection outside purchase-protected payments.

Frequently asked questions

Venmo emailed me about a payment I did not make. Is it real?

Check the app rather than the email. A real payment shows in your Venmo activity. If the message greets you generically or contains a login link, it is phishing, and it goes to phishing@venmo.com.
