Report to OfferUp

Last updated September 18, 2026

The short answer

Report OfferUp users and listings in the app, and what to report them for

OfferUp names the behaviours worth reporting, and they are the ones that come before any money moves. Asking for your verification code. Sending you to another site. Wanting to pay outside the app. Any of those is enough on its own.

What they handle

  • Users asking for your phone number, email, password or verification code
  • Links to third-party sites sent in chat
  • Requests to pay or be paid outside OfferUp
  • Listings that break OfferUp policy

How to file a report

  1. 1

    Report the user

On their profile, tap the three-dot menu, select Report, choose a reason and tap Submit Report. You can also report from your chat with them, in the app or on OfferUp.com.

  2. 2

    Report the listing

Open the listing, scroll down past the Description and select Report.

  3. 3

    Never share a verification code

A buyer or seller asking for a code sent to your phone is taking over an account, usually yours. There is no legitimate reason for the request.

  4. 4

Contact the police for anything criminal

OfferUp keeps a Report a crime article and law enforcement resources. For illegal activity, contact local authorities as well as reporting in the app.

What you'll need

  • The username and the listing URL
  • Screenshots of the chat
  • The payment method and amount, if money moved

What to expect

Reports go to OfferUp for review and action on the account. Money sent outside the app has no protection behind it, so recovery is through your bank.

Frequently asked questions

The buyer wants to verify I am real by sending me a code. Is that a thing?

No. That is the Google Voice scam. The code is for an account being created in your name, and reading it back hands it over.
