Report to Nextdoor

Last updated September 18, 2026

The short answer

Report Nextdoor scam posts, and use the word "scam" when you do

Nextdoor asks for one specific thing when you report a fraudulent post. Include the word "fraud" or "scam" in the report, which is what routes it properly. The pattern to watch for is an expensive item priced well under the market, paid for by gift card.

What they handle

  • Posts advertising expensive items far below market value
  • Members asking for payment in gift cards
  • Fake rental and contractor listings
  • Phishing and spam sent through Nextdoor

How to file a report

  1. 1

    Report the post or comment

Nextdoor keeps a help article for reporting content. Use it on the post itself.

  2. 2

Say "fraud" or "scam" in the report

Nextdoor asks you to include one of those words when reporting something fraudulent. That is what gets it handled as fraud rather than general spam.

  3. 3

    Report the member too

Report the poster to your neighborhood leads and report the member to Nextdoor Support, not just the single post.

  4. 4

File with IC3 if you lost money

Nextdoor points victims to local law enforcement and to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov.

What you'll need

  • The post URL or a screenshot
  • The member's name and neighborhood
  • The payment method and amount, if you paid

What to expect

Nextdoor removes the post and can act on the member. It holds no money and offers no purchase protection, so a gift card payment is effectively gone.

Frequently asked questions

The seller is local and seems like a real neighbour. Does that make it safer?

Not on its own. Accounts are made to look local, and the giveaway is usually the price and the payment method. A far-below-market item paid by gift card is the scam.
