Report to MetaMask
Last updated September 18, 2026
The short answer
Report a MetaMask scam through the Help Center, and why funds cannot be returned
MetaMask is honest about the hard part. It is a self-custodial wallet, so it cannot reverse a transaction or restore missing funds. The rule that prevents the loss is absolute: nobody from MetaMask will ever ask for your Secret Recovery Phrase.
What they handle
- People posing as MetaMask support
- Spoofed sites and apps imitating MetaMask
- Emails claiming to be from MetaMask
- Unauthorized transactions from your wallet
How to file a report
- 1
Use Contact Support in the Help Center
MetaMask offers customer service only through its Help Center and community forums. The Contact Support button on the support site is the route.
- 2
Never share the Secret Recovery Phrase
No MetaMask support representative will ever ask for it, or reach out with unsolicited advice. Anyone asking means to drain the wallet.
- 3
Treat outside contact as fake
MetaMask states it will never contact you outside its support channels. A DM, a phone call or a reply on social media is not MetaMask.
- 4
Report it to the authorities
MetaMask asks you to report the scam to the relevant authorities, because that is the only route that can go anywhere.
What you'll need
- The wallet address the funds went to
- The transaction hash and date
- The site, app or account that contacted you
What to expect
MetaMask cannot control access to accounts, intervene, or rescue funds. Transactions cannot be reversed. The report matters for the investigation, not for recovery.
Frequently asked questions
MetaMask support offered to fix my wallet if I gave the phrase. Real?
No. MetaMask states no support representative will ever ask for your Secret Recovery Phrase. Anyone who has it can drain every account created from it.
