Report to Best Buy

Last updated September 18, 2026

The short answer

Report fake Geek Squad renewal invoices to abuse@BestBuy.com

The Geek Squad scam is a renewal invoice for a subscription you never had. It is usually a few hundred dollars, with a number to call to cancel it. Best Buy takes these at abuse@BestBuy.com. Calling the number is the part that does the damage.

What they handle

  • Fake Geek Squad or Best Buy renewal and auto-renewal invoices
  • Refund scams that begin with one of those invoices
  • Emails and calls claiming your device is infected
  • Fake Best Buy offers asking you to confirm personal details

How to file a report

  1. 1

    Email the invoice to abuse@BestBuy.com

Best Buy's own wording is "please report it by emailing us at abuse@BestBuy.com". That covers any suspected scam involving a Best Buy or Geek Squad offer.

  2. 2

Do not call the number on the invoice

The number is the scam. Calling it reaches someone who will offer a refund, then ask for remote access to your computer to process it.

  3. 3

    Report it more widely

Best Buy also points people to local law enforcement and to either the Federal Trade Commission or the Internet Crime Complaint Center.

What you'll need

  • The invoice itself, as an attachment where possible
  • The phone number it told you to call
  • Details of any remote-access software you installed, if you called

What to expect

abuse@BestBuy.com is intake and does not reply case by case. Best Buy notes that legitimate companies, itself included, do not ask you to verify personal information by email. If you let someone onto your machine or paid, your bank is the urgent call.

Frequently asked questions

The invoice has my name on it. Does that make it real?

No. Names, addresses and partial card digits come from old data breaches and are cheap to buy. A correct detail is meant to stop you checking the rest.
