Report to eBay

The short answer

Report fake listings, items not received, and seller fraud on eBay

If you bought something on eBay and it never arrived, was fake, or did not match the description, eBay has a Money Back Guarantee that covers most purchases. You can also report fake listings and fraudulent sellers to protect other buyers.

What they handle

  • Items you paid for but never received
  • Items that arrived broken, fake, or not matching the listing description
  • Sellers who refuse to honor returns
  • Fake or misleading listings
  • Sellers who try to take transactions off eBay to avoid buyer protections

How to file a report

  1. 1

Open a case in the eBay Resolution Center

Go to ebay.com/help/buying/returns-refunds or find the item in My eBay, click "More actions," and select "I didn't receive it" or "Item doesn't match description."

  2. 2

Give the seller a chance to respond

eBay gives the seller 3 business days to respond to your case. They may offer a refund, replacement, or return label.

  3. 3

Escalate the case if the seller does not respond

If the seller ignores your case or you cannot reach an agreement, ask eBay to step in. Click "Ask eBay to step in" in the Resolution Center.

  4. 4

    Report fake listings separately

If you see a listing that looks fraudulent, click "Report item" on the listing page. This flags it for eBay's trust and safety team to review.

What you'll need

  • The eBay item number and order details
  • Screenshots of the listing showing what was promised
  • Photos of what you actually received (if the item was wrong or damaged)
  • Messages between you and the seller
  • Tracking information, if available

What to expect

eBay's Money Back Guarantee covers most purchases. If the seller does not resolve the issue within 3 business days, eBay will review the case and typically issue a refund. The process usually takes a few days to a couple of weeks. For fake listings, eBay may remove the listing and suspend the seller's account.

Frequently asked questions

What does eBay Money Back Guarantee cover?

It covers most purchases on eBay. If your item does not arrive, arrives damaged, or does not match the listing description, you can open a case and get a full refund including original shipping costs. Some categories like vehicles, real estate, and business equipment have different rules.

What if the seller asks me to pay outside of eBay?

Never pay outside of eBay. If a seller asks you to send money through Venmo, wire transfer, gift cards, or any method outside eBay checkout, it is almost certainly a scam. You lose all eBay buyer protections when you pay off-platform. Report the seller to eBay immediately.
