Report to Bank of America
Last updated September 18, 2026
The short answer
Report account and card fraud, and forward Bank of America phishing
Bank of America splits fraud reporting by product. For wire and Zelle cases the number you need is on its security page, not on the back of your card. Forwarding a phishing message and reporting lost money are two different actions here. If you acted on the message, call instead of forwarding it.
What they handle
- Unauthorized transactions on Bank of America accounts and cards
- Emails and texts using the Bank of America name
- Zelle payments sent from a Bank of America account
- Fraudulent wire transfers
- Account takeover and unrecognised profile changes
How to file a report
- 1
Call the number for that product
ATM, debit card, cheque or Zelle: 800-432-1000 or 877-366-1121, and 1-315-724-4022 from outside the US. Consumer credit card: 800-732-9194 or 800-421-2110, international 1-302-738-5719. Wire transfers: 877-337-8357, international 1-302-781-6374.
- 2
Forward the message, if you have not acted on it
Forward a phishing email that uses the Bank of America name to abuse@bofa.com, then delete it without clicking anything. Forward a suspicious text to 7726 (SPAM), which reports it through your mobile carrier.
- 3
If you already replied, call rather than forward
If you have responded to a suspicious message, Bank of America asks you to call. Use the number on the back of your card or on a bank statement. Never use a number supplied by the message itself.
- 4
Report a product security issue separately
security@bofa.com is for vulnerabilities in Bank of America products, not for fraud on your own account. The bank asks for contact details and a general description only. Hold the specifics until a secure channel is set up.
What you'll need
- The last four digits of the affected account or card
- Dates, amounts and recipients of the transactions you are disputing
- The original email or text, forwarded rather than retyped
- The number you were asked to call back, if there was one
What to expect
A claim is opened on the call and a compromised card is reissued. Card disputes normally carry a provisional credit during the investigation. A wire or Zelle payment you authorised is much harder to reverse than a card charge. Speed matters more in those cases than in any other.
Frequently asked questions
Is it abuse@bofa.com or abuse@bankofamerica.com?
abuse@bofa.com. Bank of America gives that address on its own report-suspicious-activity page and in its phishing guidance; abuse@bankofamerica.com is not the address the bank publishes.
What does forwarding a text to 7726 do?
7726 spells SPAM on a keypad. It is a shared shortcode run by the mobile carriers, not by Bank of America, and it reports the sender to your carrier. It does not open a fraud claim, so do it as well as calling, not instead.
