American Airlines gives a single check that settles most of these. If a promotion is real it is listed on aa.com or on an official American Airlines social account. If it is not there, it is not real.

What they handle

  • Unsolicited emails confirming a flight reservation or e-ticket you did not book
  • Social media offers of free gift cards, miles or tickets
  • Phony phone calls, faxes, contracts and postal mailings
  • Requests for usernames, passwords or card numbers

How to file a report

    Check the promotion against aa.com

    American says you can tell whether a promotion is valid by checking aa.com. Its official social media accounts count too. Anywhere else does not.

    Do not share or re-publish it

    Social media scams often push you to share or re-post the content, which is what spreads the scheme. That request is part of the design.

    Check any reservation in your own account

    Sign in at aa.com to check a booking you do not recognise. Do not follow the link or call the number in the email.
