Ask ChatGPT if it's a scam, and get Jacana's answer.
Jacana Scam Check is a plugin for ChatGPT. Paste a suspicious text, email or DM, or name a website, phone number or email address, and ChatGPT checks it with Jacana: you get a verdict, the red flags, and what to do next, without leaving the chat. It is free, and you don't need a Jacana account.
What it does
The plugin gives ChatGPT two tools:
- Analyze Scam checks a message, email, text, DM or a description of what happened. When the message has a link, Jacana can open the linked page too.
- Check Entity checks a website, phone number or email address before you trust it. For a website Jacana has no reports of, it can check the site live.
Each answer comes with a link that opens the result on Jacana Scam Check, where you can keep going and get a step-by-step recovery plan. Neither tool changes anything in your accounts.
How to connect
- Open Jacana Scam Check in ChatGPT's plugin directory (the button above), or in ChatGPT open Plugins in the sidebar and search for "Jacana Scam Check".
- Click Try in chat. There is nothing to sign in to.
- In any chat, paste what you want checked and ask if it's a scam. To call it directly, type @ and choose Jacana Scam Check.

Check a suspicious message
Is this a scam? "You won $1M! Send $500 in gift cards to claim your prize."
A good answer has:
- Jacana's verdict (scam, suspicious or likely safe) with a one-line headline.
- The red flags Jacana found, such as a prize you never entered and payment demanded in gift cards.
- What to do next, such as not paying and not replying.
- A "Personalized help from Jacana" link that opens this result on Jacana Scam Check.
Check a website before you use it
Is paypal-secure-verify.com safe to log into?
A good answer has:
- Jacana checks the website. If it has no reports of it, Jacana can check the site live, which takes a few seconds.
- Jacana's verdict on the site, with the red flags it found, such as a name that copies PayPal on a domain PayPal does not use.
- Advice to go to the real site by typing its address yourself, rather than logging in here.
- A "Personalized help from Jacana" link, and a "Full report" link when Jacana has reviewed the site.
Get next steps after a scam attempt
A buyer on Facebook Marketplace says I have to upgrade to a Zelle business account before they can pay me. Is this a scam, and what should I do?
A good answer has:
- Jacana's verdict and the type of scam it looks like.
- The red flags in the story, such as being asked to pay or upgrade before you can receive money.
- What to do now: stop replying, do not send money, and report the buyer on Facebook Marketplace.
- A "Personalized help from Jacana" link where you can carry on, and get a recovery plan if you already paid.
Good to know
- ChatGPT decides when to call Jacana. If it answers on its own, ask it to check with Jacana.
- Jacana's verdict is a second opinion, not a guarantee. If something feels wrong, don't pay, don't share codes or passwords, and contact the company through a number or website you already trust.
- Live checks of links and websites are limited each day. When Jacana can't check a site live, it says so, and its verdict comes from the message or the address alone.
Privacy
The plugin is anonymous: Jacana gets the text ChatGPT sends to its tools, not your ChatGPT account or your chat history. What we keep, for how long and who we share it with is in the ChatGPT app privacy notice.
